To say that we depend on the buildings we inhabit would be an understatement. Our comfort, safety, and enjoyment hinge on the ability of the systems that make up our buildings to function properly. If these systems are not properly planned for, installed and operated, the building's longevity as well as the comfort and health of the people that inhabit it may suffer. Furthermore, the construction, and operation of our buildings have large impacts on our natural environment. The Environmental House Energy and Green Building Resource Center is mission driven to increase consumer and industry awareness of and improve standards and practices relating to indoor air quality, effective energy use, and resource use in new and existing buildings. We provide free consulting services on construction and home improvement projects, indoor air quality issues, and material selection. Informational tours for groups large and small are also provided free of charge. A veritable clearinghouse of information related to sustainability and green building related issues, visitors have open access to the Environmental House resource library. The Environmental House works with a variety of local organizations to promote issues of sustainability and green building including, but not limited to Washtenaw County Department of Public Works, the City of Ann Arbor, the Ecology Center, the Home Builder's Association of Washtenaw County, the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, and Washtenaw Community College. The Environmental House has one full time staff member and is guided by a six person advisory board. The Environmental House provides challenging and flexible options for volunteers of all experience levels. Stop in at our 2420 South Industrial location to check us out or call Jason Bing at (734) 662-6288 to schedule an appointment or tour.
