Deconstruction begins!
The En-House was built inside the ReUse Center, a 10,000 square foot warehouse space (at the time) where Recycle Ann Arbor accepts and sells used building materials, household fixtures, furniture and other items. A dormant office space on one side of the warehouse was cleared out and deconstructed to make room for the En-House.
Volunteers lead the effort!
Three solid groups of volunteers from the North Campus Co-Op, EPA and Ford, working back to back to back, began the effort.
They moved boxes, clothing, electronic instruments and other things out of the way. They unearthed and removed ancient artifacts, such as bicycle parts, styrofoam car seats, boxes of plastic pellets and large metal sheets.
Volunteers from the U of M SNRE came in and cleared away nearly all the remaining clutter. Targets included baby seats, electronics, old records and shelving units.
The Engineers of Tau Beta Phi then began dropping walls and tearing out ceiling tiles. After a full days work, pizza, Coke and thanks, the Engineers left their mark.
