Recycled Steel Roof

A steel roofing panel product called Medallion Lok, manufactured by McElroy Metal, was selected for the En-House. It is 33 percent recycled content. Steel roofing is strong and long lasting as compared to asphalt shingles. Rain water can be harvested off of the clean smooth surface.

For the En-House, a layer of sheathing covers the roof framing, and a layer of black tar paper covers the sheathing. The steel roof panels lay onto the tar paper side by side, each panel 12 inches wide.

The panels clip together on the sides with metal hardware. They fit over one another in such a way that they form a watertight seal.

The clips are then screwed down into the sheathing. This type of roof panel goes on quickly and smoothly. It is durable to the weather and does not require additional treatments.
